The Gem Lab is Forging Ahead

‘While you desire lasting change with positive results, it will take commitment from you to transform your dreams into a reality. Be aware that there can be tough moments when you’re ready to throw in the towel. Frustrating times when you may want to quit. When it gets rough, or you hit a roadblock, you must forge ahead and keep going. Despite blood, sweat, and tears, do not give up… fight for a brighter future!’
― Dana Arcuri, author

The Gem Lab was first established in 1989 in Durban, which provides enough history to note how incredible young ladies have worked for us down the years. In essence, our service depends as much on the people who are part of The Gem Lab as it does on the guaranteed quality of the gems we authenticate.

Those VIPs include you, dear reader!

Self-funded SA Labs

The journey has been a difficult one, specifically because, unlike labs elsewhere, those in South Africa are independently self-funded. Overseas, labs have sponsors who value the need for gem-testing labs to authenticate gems. That has a knock-on effect in the industry for closing more sales with confidence, knowing that what they are selling is everything it’s supposed to be.

However, in Cape Town, The Gem Lab is a recognised Gem-A-Approved Practical Provider for students to do their practicals and write their exams.

I remember studying every evening after work and working in my mentor’s laboratory every weekend for the entire two-year syllabus.

We, here at The Gem Lab, continue on our epic journey, making sure we adhere to strict ethics and honesty with no compromise! Know that you, too, are part of our journey and the reason we strive ever forward to provide service excellence.

Olivia joined us in 2018 and has been a huge asset to us. Her willingness to learn and question everything has made her an incredible gemologist. We are so proud to announce that Olivia has passed her final Gem-A gemmology exam. A huge congratulations to Olivia, and we wish her all the very best for the future – a virtual round of applause here, please!

Anyone who has completed the FGA course, one of the most recognised diplomas in the world, will know that it literally takes blood, sweat, and tears to get through. It is a very tough exam to write, and prospective gemologists have to know their work well.

We would also like to take the opportunity to introduce Michelle, who has also joined our team. Michelle is a qualified geologist and will be a new face you will see at The Gem Lab. We have known Michelle for some time, and she has a lot of knowledge to share with us. We look forward to growing and offering an even better service to our valued clients.

The Gem Lab is fortunate to have Michelle as part of our team, and so are our clients. Make no mistake, our clients are heroes, too, providing a key reason we are still in business, offering this vital service to this unique industry.
