THE PLATINUM INCUBATORS PLATINUM GROUP METALS (PGMs) ADVOCACY WEEK
The Platinum Incubator (TPI) is a 17-year-old, not-for-profit business incubator, situated in Rustenburg, North West Province inside of ORBIT College, with a focus on incubating small businesses working with Platinum Group of Metals (PGMs).
In January 2022, The Platinum Incubator launched the Industrial Applications department which is researching and heading projects in refining of precious metals from secondary waste &, Reverse engineering of Auto catalyst, Development of a Food Catalyst, Hydrogen Economy- Hydrogen Storage and Development of alloys for the jewellery sector. The Platinum Incubator is currently looking to expand its PGMs advocacy into schools to inspire and inform youth in schools within the Bojanala District Municipality area. The incubator will be inviting identified learners from schools interested in the Computer Aided Design, Jewellery Manufacturing, Metallurgy and Chemical Engineering and all other related engineering fields.
The Platinum Incubator is planning to host learners at the ORBIT TVET College, Rustenburg Auditorium on the week of 26 June – 28 June 2024, event will be hosted will commemorate Youth month and more importantly play a role in the Platinum Centenary Celebrations. The programme and activities start at 09:00 – 15:00 on Wednesday & Thursday and 12:00 – 18:00 on Friday, 28 June 2024 with parents and guardians attending on Friday from 16:00 to also get an experience of the incubator. Snacks and lunch will be served every day.
The focus of the trademarked event is to enlighten the learners, (future beneficiators), on the future they have in the PGMs sector and spark an interest in the field, they are the future in the mining industry and the role they will play in the economy and future of beneficiation in South Africa. Their knowledge of the periodic table will be magnified, and they will know how to apply it and how they can compete in the global market by ensuring that minerals are mined, beneficiated and local content Jewellery, manufactured in South Africa.
The Platinum Incubator develops an educational marketing strategy for Platinum Group Metals value proposition to South Africans, bridges the gap between academia and enterprise and provides Post Incubation Services and Infrastructure that will sustain enterprises with the PGMs space while commercialising PGMs industrial applications for sustainability.
The learners will be given a practical workshop and tour of The Platinum Incubator and get experience on the mineral beneficiation and the jewellery manufacturing process. TPI is in the forefront of the 4th Industrial Applications in the way, we do our designs and the beneficiation processes.
TPI is 2018 Winner of the South African Science and Technology Forum, Award in the category of most innovative and well ran Science and Technology Non-Profit Corporate. Two (2) of TPIs SMMEs and Production Manager recently won the coveted International Anglo Plat, PlatAfrica awards in the jewellery industry, while others made it through to the finals of the National SMME funding event at the Presidential SMME and Co-operative Awards.
