OR TAMBO SEZ PRESENTS A CAPTIVATING "FASHION MEETS JEWELLERY"
The OR Tambo SEZ has created a Jewellery Manufacturing Precinct (JMP) to leverage South Africa’s rich mineral resources. This cluster aims to be competitive on a global scale while generating essential jobs and facilitating the beneficiation of minerals mined across Africa. On Monday, November 4, 2024, the OR Tambo SEZ hosted the “Fashion Meets Jewellery” event, which featured a plenary session, and masterclasses designed to empower SMMEs with crucial knowledge and insights that can aid their entrepreneurial journeys. Several SMMEs showcased and sold their products at a fashion and jewellery marketplace/exhibition, allowing attendees to explore their offerings.
To further enhance the jewellery manufacturing cluster, the OR Tambo SEZ forms strategic partnerships that support SMMEs throughout the jewellery value chain. The collaboration with NKPI Holdings; B Leisure encouraged meaningful interactions among key stakeholders, including buyers, SMEs, private and public sector representatives, international organizations, business chambers, and corporations. This platform provided a variety of business development services and assistance to SMMEs within the jewellery manufacturing sector.
Dr Ezra Ndwandwe, the Chairperson of the OR Tambo SEZ board, along with the entity’s CEO, Ms. Thandiwe Ngqobe, both endorsed the event, highlighting the significance of empowering young individuals in the cluster and ensuring access to quality skills and training opportunities. As Africa’s pioneering jewellery manufacturing precinct, the OR Tambo SEZ is dedicated to developing and uplifting the sectors minority players.
