Silver and Gold Mentorship Programme Holds Successful Half-Year Status Event

Ekurhuleni, South Africa — 31 October 2024 — The Silver and Gold Mentorship Programme, a transformative initiative aimed at nurturing emerging jewellery talent, held its half-year status event on October 31st, 2024, at the German Country Club in Sandton. Now in its fourth cohort since its inception in 2021, the programme is a collaboration between Rand Refinery, Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project (EJP), NQ Jewellery, and the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator. Together, these organizations are committed to empowering South African jewellery entrepreneurs through skill development, mentorship, and strategic industry resources.

This year’s event was an inspiring celebration, featuring speeches from the 2023/24 top performers, Karleigh King and Anita Tshangana, who shared their journeys and successes within the programme. Additionally, five Senior ED candidates delivered motivational words, encouraging the current cohort to persevere and excel in their craft.

The event recognized the hard work of Junior candidates, who received jewellery permits, Proudly SA membership certificates, and YOCO card machines to enhance their business capabilities. Senior ED candidates were awarded R2000 vouchers from Jewel-Tec, supporting their professional development. Notably, the candidates are currently in the middle of the design and manufacturing process for their jewellery design competition, a key milestone showcasing their creative skills and technical expertise.

The Silver and Gold Mentorship Programme provides participants with practical experience, industry insights, and essential business acumen for succeeding in the competitive jewellery market. This half- year status event offered mentors, mentees, and industry representatives an opportunity to revie progress, celebrate milestones, and set aspirational goals for the remainder of the mentorship year.

The Silver and Gold Mentorship Programme remains dedicated to enhancing sustainability and innovation within South Africa’s jewellery sector.
