The Evolution of African Wealth Through Craft and Creativity
The programme prepares students for careers in design, manufacturing, marketing and management, with a strong emphasis on developing an authentic South African design identity. Students gain hands-on training from material preparation to final finishing while learning historical context, advanced drawing skills, digital technologies and the craftsmanship needed to thrive in modern production environments. Under the guidance of Program Co-ordinator Vassiliki Konstandakellis, the focus remains rooted in manufacturing excellence and hand-skills that define true African artistry.

CPUT’s presence at PlatAfrica highlights the growing global visibility of African design. This year’s honours included:
- Student Category: Multiple finalists, with Siyabonga Retshe and Nolwazi Linda both tying for 2nd place.
- Professional Category: Ronel Jordaan and Osmond Davies, with Davies receiving a special mention.
