Minella Jewellery Design is a living archive of stories, faith and creativity. Founded by designer and gemmologist Jacomien Minnaar, Minella has grown from humble beginnings into a South African atelier celebrated for its soulful, story-driven design.
A journey of faith, creativity and growth
After studying Jewellery Design and Gemmology at Stellenbosch University, Jacomien lectured at her alma mater. Though she loved teaching, she longed to express her creativity with deeper meaning. That calling led her to California, where an internship reshaped her vision of art and business. Returning home, she founded her own studio. “I didn’t start Minella with funding or a big plan,” she says. “I just knew I wanted to design stories. Our slogan, ‘We design your story,’ was born.”
From a one-woman venture to a team of skilled artisans, Minella has grown through shared purpose to craft heirloom jewellery that celebrates life’s most meaningful moments. “Without my team, none of this would be possible. Their care and precision allow me to focus on what I love most – design and storytelling.”
Milestones and momentum
Minella gained early recognition through a collaboration with actress Simone Nortmann, whose custom signet ring drew attention for its symbolism and sentiment. That success inspired further partnerships and expanded Minella’s audience. Through each creation, Minella has built a loyal community that values meaning as much as beauty.
