I have been building this business since 2006, and with the focus on color gems, we have become one of the leaders in the trade of color stones and unconventional diamonds in South Africa.
We have a modern and innovative business, which means we are constantly updating our stock with new cuts and colors, and are able to supply well ahead of trends. With our incredible supply chain, we can pretty much source anything from anywhere in the world, and also offer custom orders.
Ajanta Afrika values the great relationships we have built with our clients over the years, and enjoy being part of their creative process and developing ideas.
We have all the semi precious gems in most of the standard shapes and sizes, and then the fun begins, to offer the unusual cuts and shapes. So I always say, we do the bread and butter items, but also all the weird and wonderful.
Quality is very important, so we do tend to specialise in the finer side of gems. I have a fabulous team, and we pride ourselves in excellent and efficient service. We do hand calibration and meticulously prepare orders.
We are very happy that things are easing, as far as Covid is concerned and that we are again able to see clients in the office by appointment.
The luxury goods markets have in a way benefited from the limited travel opportunities in the world, as consumers wanted to afford themselves “something nice” to wear during these times. This has been wonderful support for the local market.
The return of tourism, should again be a very strong boost for the South African Jewellery industry, as with many places in the world, we are so heavily reliant on tourism for jobs and income.
South Africa has some of the best jewellers in the world, and our industry of custom design and manufacture, done very often on demand in a short time, gives us a big advantage. South Africa is a colorful country, and I think this inspires visitors to be a bit more adventurous than they might be in their home surroundings, so there is a lot of room for fun in jewellery.
I love buying stones, and the offering of Ajanta Afrika has grown so much over the years. I will continue to do that, so that Ajanta Afrika will continue to be the one place where you can find just about anything you are looking for.
